These findings contradict later research, which found no difference in the soluble RANKL level between patients with CF and diabetic neuropathy in the acute phase but that soluble RANKL concentration decreases in CF during an 8-year period, leading to an increase in the OPG/RANKL ratio over this time.26 The discrepancy in measured OPG/RANKL ratio could be due to the difference in time periods (2 years vs 8 years). This evidence concerns the gene TNFRSF11B and diabetic neuropathy.
