A direct effect of the type I IFN pathway in the development of pulmonary hypertension is also possible, as some evidence has been reported linking type I IFN and STING signalling to pulmonary hypertension [40,41] and pulmonary hypertension has been recorded in patients having type I interferonopathies without lung disease [42]. Here, STING1 is linked to pulmonary arterial hypertension.
