In contrast, synaptophysin loss is significantly reduced at the plaque niche of 16 months old AD/cKO vs. AD CA1 (Fig. 2 G, H p=0.0295), cortex (Fig. 2 G, H, p=0.0333), and mPFC (SFig. 4 p=0.0008) suggesting that TREM2+ microglia are associated with reduced presynaptic loss independently from an effect on amyloid plaque burden.
