CCL4 and steatosis: Histologically, the Western diet combined with intraperitoneal injections of trace amounts of CCL4 induced NASH phenotypes, including steatosis, lobular inflammation, hepatocyte ballooning, and fibrosis—evident as large lipid droplets (Oil Red O), lipid vacuoles with swollen hepatocytes (H&E), and lobular-connected fibrosis (Sirius red) (Figure 2F).
