LPL and type 2 diabetes mellitus: The present review conclusively answers the research question: “How does LPL dysfunction contribute to metabolic and cardiovascular complications in type 2 diabetes, and what are the potential therapeutic strategies?” The literature review thus indicates that LPL dysfunction, marked by reduced activity of the enzyme, is a substantial contributor to the lipid abnormalities observed in T2D, including elevation of triglycerides, reduction in HDL cholesterol, and accumulation of atherogenic lipoproteins.
