In cystic fibrosis, P. aeruginosa infection in bronchial cells from cystic fibrosis patients enhanced VAPB-PTPIP51 tethering at MAMs, disrupting autophagy and increasing mitochondrial Ca2+ uptake, which triggers NLRP3 inflammasome activation and hyperinflammation. This evidence concerns the gene RMDN3 and cystic fibrosis.
