Studies on ovarian membrane cells from PCOS patients have shown increased ovarian steroid production and elevated androgen levels, primarily attributed to changes in the expression of the key enzyme CYP450 in the steroid hormone biosynthesis pathway, with the CYP11A gene serving as a potential genetic biomarker playing a major role in the pathogenesis of PCOS (Chaudhary et al., 2021). Here, CYP11A1 is linked to polycystic ovary syndrome.
