MMP9 and migraine disorder: Such augmentation of enzymes implies that they directly arterialize in BBB damage, which permits inflammatory cell and molecule infiltration, contributing to the worsening of symptoms [19,34]. Similarly, Pleș et al. highlighted that the augmentation of MMP-9 during migraine episodes contributes to both structural disruption of the BBB and heightened neuroinflammatory responses, thus sustaining the migraine process through a feedback loop of vascular and inflammatory activation [46].
