CD4 and AIDS: Autopsy data have shown that in patients with AIDS, Mpox can disseminate hematogenously to the lungs, leading to nodular necrosis, thrombotic vasculopathy, and alveolar parenchymal damage, with the highest mortality observed in individuals with CD4+ T cell counts <200 cells/μL (Mitjà et al., 2023; Ritter et al., 2024).
