TCF7L2 and diabetic retinopathy: Several signals reinforced prior links to ocular health: association signals at KCNQ5 colocalized with myopia (P < 10−10; PP-H4=0.996; Supplementary Fig. 15) and have been implicated in refractive error56; BMP3 signals colocalized with retinal detachment (P-REECAP < 10−8; PP-H4=0.906; Supplementary Fig. 15), consistent with previous evidence57; and a locus in TCF7L2, widely associated with diabetes58–60, colocalized here with retinal disorders, including diabetic retinopathy (P-REECAP < 10−8; PP-H4=0.993; Supplementary Fig. 15).
