Deletion of PIKfyve is embryonic lethal in mice (Ikonomov et al., 2011) and mutations within the components of the PIKfyve complex have been implicated in neurodegenerative diseases such as Charcot-Marie-Tooth syndrome or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) (Chow et al., 2009; Rivero-Ríos and Weisman, 2022; Chow et al., 2007). The gene discussed is PIKFYVE; the disease is neurodegenerative disease.
