To further confirm the shared signature of proinflammatory macrophages in humans, we identified an increased ratio of proinflammatory macrophages (CD68+), as well as upregulated expression of hypoxia-related Car1, Hif-1α and ROS, in the blood of myopic patients, compared to those in humans without myopia by flow cytometry (Fig. 8a, b). The gene discussed is CD68; the disease is myopia.
