MACROH2A1 and Alzheimer disease: Taken together, our data further confirm the differential effects of male and female gonadal steroids on AD-related pathology: male hormones mainly target endogenous and transgenic App independent of macroH2A1 regulation, whereas female hormones target both endogenous macroH2A1-dependent mMapt regulation and macroH2A1-independent mApp regulation, but do not influence transgene expression.
