Garvey et al. report that in a cohort of patients with unexplained, sensory predominant axonal neuropathies, the presence of chronic cough with either small nerves on ultrasound, or non-length-dependent neuropathy was strongly associated with the RFC1 gene expansion found in CANVAS (cerebellar ataxia, neuropathy and vestibular areflexia syndrome). The gene discussed is RFC1; the disease is cerebellar ataxia.
