EIF4EBP1 and neoplasm: Given that CITE-like mRNAs require a free 5′end (43) and likely 5′end scanning (33, 38, 57, 58), the tighter binding of the eIF4E•4E-BP1 than eIF4E alone near the 5′cap or critical regions of the mRNAs, may form a steric barrier that impedes 43S PIC recruitment and scanning (27), thereby inhibiting translation initiation and potentially preventing tumor formation (59).
