Ten specific genes, including Relb (a component of the NF-κB pathway), Ccl2 (Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein-1, MCP-1), Ptgs2 (Prostaglandin-Endoperoxide Synthase 2, also known as COX-2, an enzyme vital for prostaglandin synthesis), and Ccl17 (a chemokine) have been identified to be upregulated in NIHL and linked with these inflammatory processes (25). The gene discussed is PTGS2; the disease is noise induced hearing loss.
