In vitro studies on A549 NSCLC cells showed that PPARγ ligands (troglitazone and pioglitazone) significantly suppressed the secretion of pro-angiogenic ELR + CXC chemokines [i.e., IL-8/CXCL8, epithelial neutrophil-activating protein 78 (ENA-78/CXCL5), and growth-regulated oncogene alpha (Gro-α/CXCL1)], as confirmed by ELISA assays. The gene discussed is CXCL1; the disease is non-small cell lung carcinoma.
