Interestingly, a meta-analysis of DNA methylation in the BDNF and NR3C1 genes in the context of depression showed that BDNF hypermethylation may be associated with the risk of MDD in Asian populations, whereas NR3C1 hypermethylation was linked to depressive symptoms but not to MDD itself [4]. The gene discussed is NR3C1; the disease is depressive disorder.
