As a further example, Chen et al. observed that cancer cells may activate STING signaling via cGAMP transfer and, in turn, produce the inflammatory cytokines, i.e., IFN-α and TNF-α [27], while other authors reported that STING activation may upregulate immunosuppressive cytokines, such as IL-10 and subsequently activate inhibitory regulatory T cells [28].
