Laser-induced models of wet AMD reproduce key features of neovascularization, including VEGF elevation, inflammatory chemokines, extracellular matrix remodeling, and shared miRNA dysregulation, but differ anatomically (absence of macula), pathologically (acute vs. chronic progression), and in hallmark lesion formation (lack of drusen) [29,40,122,129,131,132,133]. The gene discussed is VEGFA; the disease is wet macular degeneration.
