A recent study demonstrated that solute carrier family 26 member 4 (SLC26A4), also known as pendrin, promotes autophagy and activation of the NLRP3 inflammasome in two cardiac hypertrophy models, the first a mouse model of phenylephrine (PE)-induced cardiomyocyte hypertrophy, and the second a rat model of transverse aortic constriction (TAC) [212]. Here, SLC26A4 is linked to persistent truncus arteriosus.
