p97 is an extensively characterized ubiquitously expressed protein involved in fundamental cellular processes, such as the degradation of proteins associated with the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) (ERAD) (Hyun and Shin, 2021), autophagy (Creekmore et al., 2024), and it is also an important player in the proteostasis of aggregates in Parkinson’s disease (Alieva et al., 2020; Merchant et al., 2019; Lang and Espay, 2018). This evidence concerns the gene VCP and Parkinson disease.
