Additionally, a study from 2021 indicated that reduced serum IL-37 levels were closely associated with worsening asthma conditions, particularly during asthma exacerbations, where levels were significantly lower than in healthy individuals and stable asthma patients, and positively correlated with pulmonary function indicators (FEV1) (97).These findings collectively support the potential key role of IL-37 in the initiation, progression, and persistence of asthma.
