At baseline, the participants showed some cardiovascular risk factors (Table 1): a BMI > 25 kg/m2, indicative of overweight; 34.8% fat mass, indicative of obesity; deficient CRF (V̇O2peak = 17.3 ± 6.1 mL kg−1 min−1 for women and 25.7 ± 10.2 mL kg−1 min−1 for men); an upper optimal LDL-C concentration > 100 mg/dL; an atherogenic index (TC/HDL-C) > 3.5; fasting plasma glucose > 100 mg/dL; and a proinflammatory status with CRP > 3 mg/L and IL-1ß < 0.5 pg/mL. This evidence concerns the gene CRP and obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
