GLP-1 receptor agonists, such as, semaglutide, offer a promising avenue for managing weight among PWH.47,48 Initially developed for diabetes, these medications have proven effective in promoting weight loss, improving metabolic health, and addressing wide range of comorbidities.49–52 Current clinical guidelines among PWH focus their use among individuals with obesity or prediabetes/diabetes,53 but challenges include the difficulty of maintaining long-term weight loss without ongoing treatment and concerns about weight regain if therapy is discontinued. The gene discussed is GLP1R; the disease is obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
