Interestingly, we reported that deletion of Smox in C57BL6 mice and in cancer-prone transgenic FVB/N mice overexpressing the human gastrin gene reduces the development of gastritis and gastric carcinoma, respectively (McNamara et al. 2025; Sierra et al. 2020), demonstrating that SMOX activity mediates H. pylori pathogenesis. This evidence concerns the gene GAST and gastric carcinoma.
