Several voltage-gated ion channels and their regulators have been implicated in autism spectrum disorder, epilepsy, intellectual disability, and Alzheimer’s disease, such as the voltage-gated sodium channels Nav1.1 and Nav1.2 (50, 53), the synaptic adhesion molecule Cntnap4 (54), the Kv3 channel family (55), and NRG1-ErbB4 signaling that modulates Kv1.1 channels (25). This evidence concerns the gene SCN2A and early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
