The tumour-suppressive role of ACAA1 is further supported by genetic evidence: the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs4988453, located in the promoter region shared by ACAA1 and MYD88 (a downstream effector of toll-like receptors), has been shown to decrease transcriptional activity of ACAA1 and correlate with reduced survival in colorectal cancer patients.39 The gene discussed is MYD88; the disease is neoplasm.
