Abnormal DNA methylation is a hallmark linking CTCF and different kinds of cancer (Damaschke et al. 2020), this connection can be explained by the abrogation of CTCF binding by methylation and the development of cancer-specific expression landscapes leading to cancer-specific hypermethylation (Damaschke et al. 2020), but if the loss of CTCF in AD leads to AD-specific methylation and gene expression is not yet verified. This evidence concerns the gene CTCF and Alzheimer disease.
