Moreover, after the Z-VAD-FMK/GSK872 co-treatment, proteolytic cleavages of both caspase-1 and caspase-3 and the phosphorylation level of MLKL were found to be repressed in the placentas of ZIKV-infected pregnant dams compared to that in the control vehicle group, indicating that the combined Z-VAD-FMK and GSK872 treatment can indeed suppress PANoptosis induced by ZIKV infection in vivo (Fig. 5F).
