Due to the rich expression of CD21 molecules on the B cell surface, EBV can mediate entry into B cells by binding the EBV glycoprotein gp350/220 to CD21, thereby establishing B lymphocytes as the primary target for EBV infection in the majority of cases (Arredouani et al., 2014). This evidence concerns the gene ART4 and Epstein-Barr virus infection.
