Deficiency of the circRNA RS-7, which downregulates the expression of the ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme UBE2A and affects amyloid clearance by proteolysis, has been shown to be depleted in the brains of Alzheimer’s disease patients, leading to amyloid accumulation and the formation of amyloid plaques (Zhao et al., 2016). Here, UBE2A is linked to Alzheimer disease.
