Elevated microtubule affinity-regulating kinases (MARKs) differentially regulate tau protein missorting and amyloid-dependent synaptic pathology and are closely linked to early tau protein phosphorylation in the brains of Alzheimer’s disease patients (Lund et al., 2014; Chudobová and Zempel, 2023). Here, MAPT is linked to early-onset autosomal dominant Alzheimer disease.
