A high WBC count and CRP concentration accelerate the progression of frailty, and early identification of systemic inflammation is important to identify patients at high risk of frailty.[24] A high CRP concentration has also been reported to be related to an acute inflammatory status and malnutrition.[25] In fact, the patients with frailty in the present study showed a significantly higher WBC count, CRP concentration, mGPS, and neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio and a significantly lower albumin concentration than those without frailty (P < .05, data not shown).
