Upon further adjustment for area‐level deprivation, smoking status, year of type 2 diabetes diagnosis and baseline HbA1c and eGFR, the rates of metformin and insulin initiation were 9% (HR 1.09, 95% CI: 1.07–1.11) and 24% higher (HR 1.24, 95% CI: 1.18–1.31), respectively, in people with versus without SMI (Figure 3).
