Through systematic annotation based on canonical marker genes, we identified these clusters as: stress-responsive tumor cells (Cluster 0, marked by HIST1H2BG, JUN, EGR1, ATF3), cancer stem cell-like population (Cluster 1, LGR5, PROM1), metabolically active tumor cells (Cluster 2, EIF/EEF genes, CCND1), goblet cell-like differentiated tumor cells (Cluster 3, MUC2, TFF3, SPDEF), G2/M-phase enriched highly proliferative tumor cells (Cluster 4, CDK1, CCNB1/2, PLK1, AURKA/B, TOP2A, MKI67), and colonocyte-like differentiated tumor cells (Cluster 8, KRT20, CEACAM7, FABP1/2, SLC26A3, HMGCS2). This evidence concerns the gene MUC2 and cancer.
