Classic studies have shown that intermittent exposure of this snail to rotenone induced significant reduction of locomotion, feeding and tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) expression in the central nervous system, suggesting that this model could be suitable for PD research (Vehovszky et al., 2007; Maasz et al., 2017; Zeng et al., 2018). The gene discussed is TH; the disease is Parkinson disease.
