It is the naturally occurring isomer and accounts for most of the total CLA consumed in a habitual animal-based diet and has previously been shown to increase GLUT4 expression and decreased macrophage infiltration of white fat in male ob/ob C57BL-6 mice [34]; however, the other common CLA isomer, synthetic trans-10, cis-12, typically produced synthetically and consumed as an oral supplement, caused increases in insulin concentrations and insulin resistance in C57Bl/6J male mice [35] and decreases in insulin sensitivity in men [36].
