Considering that endothelial dysfunction and vascular inflammation represent crucial steps in the pathogenesis of cardiovascular system disorders [32,33,34], this study is focused on two aspects of anti-inflammatory action that are particularly important for cardiovascular physiology and pathophysiology of cardiovascular disorders: (1) activity of key enzymes of the arachidonic acid cascade, such as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) and 5-lipoxygenase (5-LOX), and (2) modulation of the inflammatory response of leukocytes and endothelial cells. This evidence concerns the gene PTGS2 and inflammation.
