Finally, several in vitro and in vivo studies have suggested a potential positive effect of lactoferrin administration for the treatment of other lung diseases, such as asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, and cystic fibrosis, but human studies are still lacking, highlighting the need of well-designed clinical trials to also demonstrate its therapeutic effectiveness (both in terms of main or additive treatment) in these clinical conditions as well as to provide clear clinical guidelines about doses and administration routes [3,146].
