ALB and Miyoshi myopathy: Since the initial prognostic staging attempt by Durie & Salmon [1], several advances have been made, moving to the ISS stage [2], which, through β2-microglobulin and albumin levels, better represents the disease burden, then to the R-ISS stage [3], which combines ISS with LDH level, a marker of tumor replication, and cytogenetic abnormalities as del(17p); t(4;14) and t(14;16), expression of the biological aggressiveness of MM; and finally to the R2-ISS stage [4], incorporating 1q abnormalities as poor prognostic factors.
