The only FDA-approved drugs for ALS are the repurposed drugs riluzole (glutamate antagonist) and edaravone (radical oxygen scavenger), and an antisense oligonucleotide for SOD1 familial ALS, tofersen, that have only a minor effect in delaying the progression of the symptoms in a subset of patients [8,9]. Here, SOD1 is linked to amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.
