PVT1 and neoplasm: In cancer, PVT1 is well studied as a cancer mutation hotspot and oncogenic locus that drives proliferation during tumorigenesis with its neighboring gene, MYC,19,20 known to be involved in cell proliferation, growth, and cell competition.21–23 The tight regulation of Myc is critical for ensuring neural cell fate transition.21 Additionally, the PVT1 promoter, independent of the PVT1 lncRNA, acts as a tumor suppressor by decreasing the expression of MYC via enhancer competition with intragenic enhancers within PVT1.
