A study using a rat cecal ligation and puncture (CLP) model found that Se and/or vitamin E pretreatment reduced or prevented sepsis-induced lung tissue injury, as evidenced by improved blood gas parameters (pH, pCO2, SaO2), decreased white blood cells, reduced C-reactive protein (CRP) levels, and improved glutathione peroxidase levels [65].
