The C allele of rs11209026 is significantly associated with an increased risk of IBD, leading to overactivation of IL23R, which promotes cytokine stimulation of intestinal epithelial cells, fibroblasts, and endothelial cells, resulting in the secretion of more proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines, thereby recruiting immune cells (such as macrophages and T cells) to enhance the inflammatory response [33, 34]. Here, IL23R is linked to inflammatory bowel disease.
