Panellists also agreed that blood transfusion should be considered for patients with Hb < 7 g/dL or < 9 g/dL with comorbid ischaemic heart disease, severe symptomatic anaemia (e.g. Hb < 5–6 g/dL), severe anaemia refractory to corticosteroids, life‐threatening conditions, planned surgeries or severe complications. This evidence concerns the gene GSTM1 and anemia.
