To understand how PBN (CGRP) projections drive synaptic activity after exposure to an anxiogenic state, we focus on the BNST, as in the absence of sustained pain, the BNST circuit plays a prominent role in anxiety‐like behavior, relative to the CeA (Davis et al. 2010; Lebow and Chen 2016; Palmiter 2018; Jaramillo et al. 2021).
