TBEV is the etiological agent of tick-borne encephalitis (TBE), a disease of the central nervous system spread by ticks of the genus Ixodes. TBEV is a small spherical enveloped virus around 50 nm in diameter with a single-stranded positive-sense RNA genome of approximately 11 kb encoding 3 structural proteins (capsid, membrane, and envelope proteins) and 7 non-structural proteins (Fuzik et al., 2018). This evidence concerns the gene ERVW-1 and tick-borne encephalitis.
