PRL and hyperprolactinemia: In an ideal setting, the best approach to investigating hyperprolactinemia andmacroprolactinemia is: (i) the physician requests an initial prolactinmeasurement, particularly in patients with clinical symptoms ofhyperprolactinemia and/or infertility; (ii) if elevated, the laboratory providesa report with the prolactin level and a note suggesting confirmation of theresult with another sample and macroprolactin testing.
