Mechanistic studies show that Piezo1 not only regulates endothelial cell function by directly mediating Ca2+ influx but also activates downstream signaling pathways such as Ca2+/CaM/CaMKII, promoting the release of inflammatory factors, leading to endothelial damage and driving the progression of atherosclerosis (Hao et al., 2024; Lan et al., 2024). This evidence concerns the gene PIEZO1 and atherosclerosis.
