SP1 is a transcription factor that binds GC‐rich promoter sequences and plays significant roles in growth, differentiation, apoptosis, inflammation, and oxidative stress.[45, 46, 47] SP1 expression is elevated during IDD, and its inhibition slows IDD progression.[48] A regulatory association between SP1 and LRRK2 has been confirmed.[20] We found that SP1 directly binds the LRRK2 promoter to regulate its expression in NPSCs. This evidence concerns the gene LRRK2 and intervertebral disk degenerative disorder.
